Ok it seems I say this with every installment, but I think this is my favorite. Risa knows what he wants and he goes after it. Dexter is an alpha who doesn't like the politics of it, but when it comes to Risa, he lets he Alpha show. Dexter didn't know what love was until Risa. It when he almost loses him, that Dexter really understands what love is.
This is an incredibly sexy addition to the series. The old ways are gone but Dexter is still an alpha. He doesn't want to lead his own crest but those alpha instincts are still there. Risa is a freshman who has been following Dexter around--like a puppy. But Risa knows what he wants and that is Dexter. They face some obstacles to being together and misunderstandings almost tear them apart. This story has elements of exhibitionism and an attempted rape. Those are somewhat off-putting for me. Still, this book advances the story and is a good fit with the previous stories.
My favorite in this series! Protective and growly are exactly what Dexter is and throw in a little unsure of himself. Because lets face it, even Alphas are even unsure of them self. Being a Alpha is not something Dexter advertises, he doesn't want to lead. Risa is very much his shifter half in human form. He needs a alpha to lead him. Dexter is perfect for the job, Risa just couldn't figure out how to get him to do it. Dexter didn't want the complication of taking a freshman lover, but when he decides he wants to put a stop to the puppy show. He ends up getting a whole new deal. This book is a must read for the series. I loved the way the characters developed into each other.
I really liked this story, I'll admit I was a little hesitant at first, Worried that I was getting the typical 'dumb jock' & the 'wimpy would-be boyfriend'. I should have known better. Ms. Eire delivers a great couple with depth and honest emotions. I liked the fact that both men are in sports and competitive while in different sports Soccer & Track. It gave them a common background without it interfering if they were in the same sport.
Risa is submissive but not too submissive, and knows exactly what he wants and sets out to get it. While Dexter is dominating without being too dominating and is willing to learn what Risa likes and doesn't like. There is a really nice balance between the two.
When Dexter screws up and he does big time, everything is resolved in a believable way which is nice. I did feel there were 1 or 2 minor plot lines there were left dangling which is why this didn't get 5 stars, however they may get resolved in a future book. I hope so.
Really liked this one. Can't wait for the next one.
