I liked this book a lot. It kept you reading whether or not you had something else to do. Your hero was a Capt. in the South and a girl friend a spy in the North. Good decent read with none of the gore, blood or sex. Just a very good read. I recommend this book to anyone who has a interest in the Civil War. Oh yes, this author is one that I read time to time and never have been disappointed in any of his books.Not the very best but worth the four (4) stars I've given it.

This is one of a couple of books I have read by this author and I find them fascinating. Having been born in New York and raised in New Jersey, I don't often get to hear the viewpoint of a soldier in Lee's army. It was a deep, sentimental historical romance. It's well-written and gripping.

If you like historical fiction written in the early 1900's with heroes, villans, romance and mystery, you'll like this book.
Probably the best of Altshelers books on the Civil War, and a fascinating glimse into Southern society at the time.
Yes, indeed Mzwakhe is a great prophetic poet. Reading and listening to all his work one can only conclude that he has got a rear gift I'm sure many of us wish we had. His way of articulating situations I'm so sure influenced in a big way the forces of doom to rethink their stance on a continuous oppression of the natives in their land of birth.
Today, we in the South are free and are busy trying to create peace and stability in the whole of Africa through missions led by our current Deputy President Jacob Zuma and that was one of Mzwakhe's prophecies.
This book is not your typical research material but a product of genuine painful experience which affected both the oppressor and the oppressed.
If you find this book, grab it quickly and don't let it go! This is a work of a genius, who participated in the struggle, and who still suffers today as a result of his continuous efforts against injustice. This is the history that we must preserve from the wretched re-writings of post-colonial South Africa. We must tell our children his story. I wish that I had a copy of the book to keep in my forever library!
